Education - Is it worth it?

When are we going to start investing in our youth?

In this modern world we are taught at an early age that to get on in the world, we need to go to University and get a degree.  It seems they are available in almost any subject you care to think of including Harry Potter, Viking Studies and The Beatles.  It does tend to make you wonder why some expect to get a career following their studies!

There has got to be a certain truth in the saying that any education is not wasted but it can also be that some may be more useful then others.

One can't help but wonder if University degrees are so important then why do 50% of the students in the UK and 40% of those in USA end up taking unqualified jobs?

  • There are over 400,000 schoolchildren in the UK being taught by unqualified teachers!  Why is this?

Following three years at University the average teaching student has £30,000.00 worth of debt!  When they obtain a role in a local comprehensive school they are expected to pay a further £9,000.00 for teacher's training!

Providing they pass their training they will receive the massive sum of £22,000.00 in wages which, when added together will take them at least 10 years to pay their debt's.  To make the role more appealing , when they allow time for preparation for lessons, most teachers will work in excess of 50 hours a week!

  • It doesn't take a great deal of effort to realise why there isn't a queue of potential teachers out there.

Shouldn't the British Government be paying grants to our Teachers while they train rather then charging them to learn?

Shame on them!
